Call of the Owl
"CALL OF THE OWL" IS A GRIPPING TRUE STORY OF RESILIENCE, FAITH, AND SURVIVAL IN THE HEART OF APPALACHIA.
Young Bethel grows up in a world where home is anything but a safe haven. As she navigates the shadows of fear within the very walls meant
to protect her, she turns to God-
-the only refuge in
a culture where silence is survival.
Torn between love and terror, Bethel clings to faith even when it feels like she has been abandoned. Just when she believes she has found salvation in a knight in shining armor, heartbreak strikes again, leaving her to fight for her own redemption.
With moments of laughter and heart-wrenching sorrow, Call of the Owl takes readers on an emotional journey through the trials of a girl who longed to be loved, a woman who fought to be free, and the divine grace that carried her through.
Mary Bethel Hawkins was born on October 2, 1935, as the third of thirteen children to Romie Dale Lesher and Martha Ellen Mullins Lesher in their family home on Dry Ridge, near Clendenin, West Virginia.
Coming from humble beginnings, Bethel's early years were deeply rooted
in the rich culture of Appalachia. Due to family responsibilities, she was required to leave school after the eighth grade to help raise her younger siblings.
A devoted Christian, Bethel lived her life with a humble spirit, striving to serve God in all that she did. She was passionate about sharing her life experiences and wrote this book to honor God and offer encouragement to others facing similar hardships, believing that her journey could inspire and uplift those in need.
